Crowdynews joined the SPROCKIT Startup class of 2016 this past March. Our initiation into the SPROCKIT community began with a booth at the NAB Show in the SPROCKIT Pavilion. The show was held in Las Vegas, April 18 – 21. The combination of over 100,000 NAB Show attendees as well as the SPROCKIT hub being a destination stop, we experienced a continuous stream of broadcasters visiting the Crowdynews booth. Everyone who stopped by wanted to learn more about how Crowdynews improves viewer and listener engagement on a broadcaster’s website.
Here are our 3 Key Takeaways:
- Broadcasters understand the value of social media
- Broadcasters want to engage with viewers & listeners via social
- Crowdynews voted favorite Sprockit startup
The Value of Social Media
Recent research conducted by Crowdynews found that almost 50% of the survey respondents use social media to discover or read the news. In addition, 1/3 said the inclusion of a social media channel improves the credibility of the broadcaster’s digital site. Based on over a hundred conversations, broadcasters supported our findings regarding the importance of social media in news discovery, news consumption, news sharing, and commenting on the news.
Engage With Viewers & Listeners
Broadcasters intuitively understand the importance of delivering social media as a means to improve viewer and listener engagement on their digital sites and are actively searching for solutions to help them curate and present relevant and safe social content to their readers. As Beasley Broadcasting Group learned first-hand, social media became the news-of-the-day during the San Bernardino shootings late last year. Through partnering with Crowdynews, BBGI’s Digital Team saw first-hand the potency of automated curation by delivering breaking news 20 – 30 minutes before mainstream news outlets.
The Power of Social Media
A Crowdynews show highlight was the ability to leverage our social media expertise to get-the-vote-out for Crowdynews as the Favorite SPROCKIT Startup. Nearly every Crowdynews employee, people located throughout the world, posted to their social media channels asking their friends and family to vote for Crowdynews. Regardless if the channel was Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or something else, a call-to-action to vote was created. In addition, posts were “liked,” re-tweeted and followed increasing the number of eyes that saw the call-to-action and voted. It was a close race between us and several other SPROCKIT startups throughout the day and a half of voting. In the end, Crowdynews took home the trophy!
In addition to being voted Favorite SPROCKIT Startup, Crowdynews gave a presentation and participated on a panel discussion.
Overall, it was a great show and we’re looking forward to attending the NAB Show in 2017 as a SPROCKIT alum.
