Relevant social content is king
One very important thing we’ve learned this week is that creating relevant content that is unique and tailored for each media platform is more important than just creating content. Your content has to be authentic and relevant to the everyday lives of your readers and consumers if you really want to succeed as a brand / content publisher. The key is to know your audience, and know yourself – this is the way to create content relevant to your brand, and relevant to the people attracted to your brand. It’s all about creating content that sells.
We’ve listed 7 tips, based on the impressive keynotes we’ve heard at IWNY 2013:
1. Know who you are: Be aware of what your point of view is. Finding topics to write about gets easier once you’ve established a clarified content marketing purpose. Stay true to your brand voice.
2. Listen to your audience: Before you implement a specific content strategy you must take time to listen to what users like, what they talk about and find out what platforms they are using. It’s not possible to create relevant content if you don’t listen.
3. Get to know your platforms: Before you start analyzing and selecting the relevant social platforms, you should definitely evaluate your brand identity and content goals first.
4. Reflect: Once you’ve created relevant content it is best to reflect on your successes. You have to find out what works for your audience and if it still works. In the future you will then be able to present highly relevant content to your users.
5. Adjust content: Not all content is the same. Whatever you post on Facebook, may not work well on Twitter and vice versa. You must get to know your audience. Creating content that appeals to different groups and/or reading habits is crucial. In that way you extend the lifecycle of your content.
6. Be where your audience is: In today’s media video and mobile are becoming critical and practically mandatory. We rely more on the visual than ever before. Figure out how you can make use of photos and videos to best promote your brand.
7. Conversation is king! Creating and publishing content is very important, but getting involved in conversations is just as important. Reply to questions from your users and comment on blog posts as much as you can. This can be of great value for your brand.
